In an idyllic edge-of-village position (all the benefits of the village in one direction, wonderful countryside walks in the other), our 3 bedroom cottage (sleeps 5) is set within the beautiful gardens of our Manor House, (a grade 2* listed timber framed building dating from the 1580s). Converted from an original farm building the cottage provides accommodation almost all on one level (just a couple of internal steps).  Set in a Conservation Area in an historic part of Newick the location is very peaceful with a view from the cottage front door to the lovely 11th century mellow sandstone church.  The south facing sitting room looks out onto its own enclosed garden with patio and lawned areas surrounded by flower borders and a beautiful magnolia tree (wonderful in late March!).

We are only 15 minutes from the historic town of Lewes (Lewes Castle, Anne of Cleves House), half an hour from Brighton. There is so much to do in this area from the growing number of great vineyards to visit (Rathfinny, Ridgeview), beautiful gardens to see including private ones open under the NGS scheme such as Town Place and Clinton Lodge, great walks on the Ashdown Forest and along the South Downs. Glyndebourne for opera, Bluebell Railway for steam train enthusiasts, South of England Showground, Pippingford Park, Sheffield Park, Borde Hill, are all nearby. For children places nearby include Middle Farm, Knockhatch, Groombridge Place.

Newick is a delightful village with local shops, a bakery (fresh bread and croissants for breakfast just a walk away), three gorgeous old pubs (good food, popular with locals, beams and roaring fires), a popular cafe (cakes, cream teas, sandwiches, milk shakes), a tandoori, a classic village green and, just close by, a typical Sussex cricket pitch complete with pavilion and glorious views.  The cottage is situated down a quiet lane on the southern edge of the village, a short walk from the shops and pubs, and about half a mile from the main road (A272).
